So you have heard about bed bugs and now so many questions fill your head. It is important to have all of your questions answered so that you will know if your home is ever affected by bed bugs.
The first question you may be asking is, “What are bed bugs?” Bed bugs are a pest that you don’t want invading your home. They are small, oval, flat bugs that move very fast. They are able to be seen by the naked eye. 
The next question you may be asking is, “If bed bugs can be seen by the naked eye, then why do people make such a big deal about not knowing whether they have them or not?” Though the bed bugs can be seen by the naked eye, they are hiders. These little pests live down in the crevices of your mattresses and furniture, as well as in piles of clothing. They come out at night to feed.
You might now be wondering, “What do bed bugs eat?” Bed bugs will bite live animals and humans. They will latch on for a couple of minutes and suck out blood. When they are full they unlatch and go back into their hiding spot until they are hungry again. Typically, you will see bed bug bites in groups of three. The bites often become little red welts and are itchy, kind of like mosquito bites. The only way to confirm whether a bed bug has been snacking on you is to actually see the bed bug.
Another question you may have is, “How do you get rid of bed bugs?” If you suspect you may have bed bugs in your home the first thing you need to do is call your exterminator in. Your exterminator can determine for sure if bed bugs are the culprit for your bug bites or for random spots on your furniture. If your exterminator determines that bed bugs are the culprit, then they will probably recommend performing heat treatments to each room in your house that has been inhabited by the bed bugs. The heat treatment will work as long as you follow up with proper washing of your clothes, blankets and sheets. Proper washing includes hot water and the highest heat setting on the dryer. Be prepared, though, to pay a pretty penny for the heat treatment done by your exterminator. If done right, even though you will have paid good money for it, you will be pleased with the positive outcome.
